how to find your lifestyle lanes

I know it’s tempting to just have one ~lifestyle theme~ where you tuck away all the things that aren’t “work” into one place.

it becomes a mile-long list of sh*t you wish you could post more of but actually post NOT MUCH AT ALL because you can’t make it make sense within your expertise-based content.

YES, HI.

I SEE YOU AND I GET IT.

it feels random because, when we squish every possible lifestyle idea into a single bucket, it IS random.

we’ve skipped the step where we give it context within our existing expertise AND/OR enough meaning for it to become something new we’re known for.

when I dropped my free content planning template earlier this month (right here if you don’t have it already!!) I got a BUNCH of questions about the “life lanes” section, soOOooo, allow me to clarify.

first, the glossary:

themes: the overarching conversations you’re leading on all your platforms

perspectives: underpins each theme (it’s not a theme if it doesn’t come with a POV)

lanes: actual topic examples of what is and what isn’t in your lane as a leader

(okay, let’s get back to it)

every theme has a set of lanes, and within those lanes, there’s work AND life.

this helps you check in with whether or not a topic is really *yours* to own (like, do you even want to?) and is essential in making decisions about what parts of your life to share (or not!!).

when you’re defining your lanes, think of it this way:

WORK LANES = anything that comes up in your offers, client relationships, or as a subject matter expert

LIFE LANES = any lifestyle bits you want to be associated with or have influence around

the mistake I often see is folks trying to create one theme for allllllll of their lifestyle content, but actually: your lifestyle should be woven into every one of your content themes.

what can i actually create with them?

here are some ways to use your lifestyle lanes:

  1. ideas for what to film or photograph in your visuals
  2. embodiment content (aka doing the things you value)
  3. opportunities to partner or earn affiliate revenue

whether or not you’re actually posting in pursuit of collabs, my absolute FAVE way to come up with lifestyle lanes is to ask:

”what kinds of brands would sponsor my life?”

for me, that could be:

→ home style things
→ fashion stuff
→ minimal makeup, hair healing, and pro-aging skincare
→ kitchen + cooking (bonus points if a dairy product)
→ natural wine anything!! bottles, bars, etc.
→ leisure-focused travel (read: no adventure lol)
→ print media like romance books or magazines
→ writing products (notebooks, pens, prompts!)

so, make YOUR list.

you’ll end up with overarching lifestyle categories that you can weave into your visuals, post topics, and even expand into affiliate + partnership revenue.

OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND!

my free content planning template makes it super easy to create with this in mind, jsyk. NOW GO PLAY!!!
